probation (pro BAY shun) 

The noun probation refers to a period of time during which a person who has committed a crime must carefully obey the law and other conditions a court may require instead of being sent to prison.

    The court put them on probation for one year and they were told to avoid activities causing unrest in the country.

    Nong Lee's parents had been on probation since last year for putting the girl out on the street to sell garlands.

    Some offenders placed on probation have been given a chance to perform community service under the care of the Probation Department.

    The Criminal Court  issued a warning to, and extended the probation period of, Wan Yubamrung, the son of former politician Chalerm Yubamrung, for another year for violating an order not to visit any entertainment venues.
