The noun hail refers to small balls of ice that fall like rain from the sky. A hail storm is heavy hail which is sometimes accompanied by strong winds.

    A hail storm caused serious damage in two tambons of Kalasin's Tha Khantho district on Thursday night, leaving one villager seriously injured.

    Once outside they found themselves confused in a midnight thunderstorm with hail, heavy rain and winds strong enough to knock them down.

    The “super sandwich” technique has applications in releasing the energy from weather systems which may produce potentially damaging hail storms.

    Benton said he could feel powerful winds shake the plane as it touched down on the runway made slippery from the hail.
