liability

liability (noun) -
a. the money that a company owes
b. something that causes problems and embarassment

liable for (verb) - legally responsible for something
liability - legal responsibility
* He was held liable for the damage caused by his negligence.
* He has admitted liability for the claimed damages but disputes the exact amount.

liable to (verb) -
a. likely to happen, likely to experience or do something
* You're liable to succeed in business if you keep trying out new business ideas.
* You're liable to bump into something if you keep walking like that.


Example sentences:

* The once popular political party is now a political liability.

* The insurance company is liable for damages to the victims of the accident.

* If you slip and fall on this wet floor, the owner of the building could be held liable.

* As the president's popularity falls, the party is starting to consider him a liability.

* This term in the contract will stop firms from getting out of their liability for injury or death caused by their negligence.

* Some of the terms in the contract limit or exclude liability.
