Crucible of War: Burma and the Ming in the Tai Frontier Zone (1382-1454)

By Jon Fernquest, Bangkok Post, SOAS Bulletin of Burma Research, 4.2, Winter 2006

Read about how the Tai state (or chieftainship) of Mong Mao on the Burma-Yunnan border almost became another another Thailand around 1400, but disappeared when it got stuck between a rising Ming China and Burma.

The SOAS Bulletin of Burma Research (SBBR) focuses on Burma Studies and the history of Burma.

The journal is published at London University's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) where students and professors study the history and culture of Thailand and the Tai as well as that of other states in Southeast Asia such as Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam and minority groups such as the Wa or the Akha.
